AMP Futures offers seven account types: Individual, Joint, IRA, Corporate, LLC, Partnership, and Trust.
However, to start, you must first open either an Individual or a Joint account. After one of these is approved, you can apply for an IRA account.
Why does it work this way?
- AMP needs to establish your main identity first (Individual or Joint) before adding more complex account types.
- Once you're approved, adding other account structures is easy and managed under the same login.
A few important points when opening an IRA account.
- Your IRA would need an account of its own. Which means you cannot roll over an IRA into an existing individual or joint account. You may open an account for your IRA on our portal through your profile.
- However, please remember a few things. (1) The IRA must have a custodian like Inspira, Entrust, Charles Schwab, or any reputable company. The IRA's account application is to be countersigned by the Custodian. You will need to obtain the contact information of an individual at your custodian and provide it to AMP's New Accounts Department. We will reach out to your custodian and get the documents countersigned. (2) Money will come and go to/from the AMP account into a specific bank account for the IRA, under the supervision of the custodian. The bank account may be in the name of your custodian for your IRA.
Step-by-Step Guide
- First, make sure to establish a custodian account of your choice if you do not already have a custodian account. You would do this directly with the custodian.
- Log in to your AMP client portal - Go to: https://www.ampclientportal.com/Identity/Account/Login
- Start a New Application - From the sidebar, click "Start new application."
- Choose the Account type.
- If you're just opening your first account, select Individual or Joint.
- After approval, return to the portal and click "Start new application" again to choose the additional account type (IRA).
5. Fill & Submit - Complete the application form, upload any required documents, and submit, just like your first one.
